Innovative Housing Program assists Tribal Members

NEC’s Housing Program continues to provide safe and affordable housing to low-income members of the tribe. We currently offer assistance to members to buy-down the cost of mortgages, as well as renovate older homes.

NEC is collaborating with the Rural Alaska Community Action Program (RurAL CAP) and Alaska Housing Finance Corp. to offer weatherization services for homes in the Nome area. These services are available to all eligible residents, regardless of whether they are tribal members.

Since October 2008, NEC has:

  • Helped four member families purchase their first home
  • Completed home renovations for two member families
  • Weatherized seventeen homes
  • We are currently helping a family buy-down the cost of a home purchase and recently began another renovation project, with two more renovations scheduled for 2010. We anticipate weatherizing 15 homes next summer.

The Housing Program staff is comprised of Program Director Glen Pardy, Housing Specialist Pamela Smith, Crew Foreman Bivers Gologergen and Lead Carpenter Paul Hukill.

Applications for Housing Program assistance are available at the NEC Housing office and on this website (see download links below). For more information, call Pamela Smith at 907-443-9102 or Glen Pardy at 907-443-9105.
